He was born on Sept. 28, 1942 in Cape Girardeau, to the late Fred Herman and Josephine Louise Probst Obermann. He married his bride of 47 years, Margaret Jane Miller on July 3, 1971 and she survives of the home.
Walter was a retired engineer for Union Pacific Railroad after 34 years of service and a retired farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chaffee. He was a member of the United Transportation Union and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Teamsters. Walter was a past member of the Elks Lodge #1810 and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his bride, Margaret Jane Obermann; three grandchildren, Lillith, Alisa and Gant Parsons; a sister-in-law, Corena (Tom) Miller Ressel of Kelso, Missouri; two nephews, Rick (Amy) Miller of Plainfield, Illinois; Rob (Susan) Miller of St. Louis, Missouri; two nieces, Cheryl (David) Westermann of Spring, Texas and Patty (Ron) Schaefer of Scott City; a brother, Paul F. (Billie) Obermann of Wappapello, Missouri; fourteen great nephews and nieces; ten great-great nephews and nieces.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Oakley and brother-in-law, E. Frank Miller.
Friends may call from 4 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Chaffee with Rev. Josh Boley officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
