Alta Marie Laster, 87 of Commerce, Missouri died Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at her home. She was born February 16, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey to Corbett and Maude Tuttle Fears. She married Hayes Winford Laster on November 12, 1949. They shared 67 years together before his death on February 18, 2015
Alta was a member and elder in the Community of Christ Church in Sikeston, Missouri and was a member of the Commerce Community Betterment Club. She was involved each year with the music for bible school at the Baptist and Methodist churches in Commerce.
Alta was always very involved with her husband and son’s farming operation bringing them lunches and parts. She loved her Lord, her family and her friends. Her love of music was shared through teaching piano to local children as well as teaching her only grandson guitar. She had such a kindness in her eyes that everyone who knew her loved her.
Loving survivors include a son, Conley (Dee) Laster of Commerce; a daughter, Tia (Robert) Wardron of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Stuart Matthews, Stephanie Matthews, Beth (Branden) McCullough and Amber (Robert) Gill; three great grandchildren; John Thomas Kimball, Colin McCullough and Owen Gill; a brother, Floyd Fears of Independence, Missouri and three sisters, Melva Darling of San Antonio, Texas, Alma Reed of Houston, Texas and Mary Ann Parks of Ruston, Louisiana.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lowell Fears.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of service on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Amick-Burnett chapel in Scott City.
Memorial service will be at 11:30 am on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the chapel with Rev. Bill Embry officiating.
Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery in Commerce, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
