Rev. Charles J. Lance, 93 of Perryville, Missouri formerly of Scott City died Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Independence Care Center in Perryville, Missouri. He was born June 3, 1925 in rural Illmo, Missouri to William Russell and Lucille Brant Lance. He married Olga Virginia Gulley on December 3, 1943.
He attended elementary school at Grayspoint, and Illmo High School and graduated from Thomasville High School in Thomasville, Missouri. He served in the Army Air Force during WW II assigned with the Twentieth Air Force, stationed in Guam in the South Pacific.
Following his military service he studied at Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and was ordained into the Assemblies of God ministry. The family lived in Cahokia, Illinois for 26 years where they built and he served as pastor of the Emmanuel Assemblies of God Church. For the past 25 years he has served as a minister in Pastoral Care at Cape First Church in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Virginia (Gerry) McCloud of Perryville, Judy Buckingham of Scott City and Cyndi (Christian) Hamelman of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Barbara Rhymer of Scott City; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Robert Buckingham; a brother, J.D. Lance; a sister, Mary Lou Hitchcock and a great grandchild, Alexys Buckingham.
Visitation will be from 4:30 pm until the time of service on Monday at Cape First Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 pm on Monday at the church with Revs. Gary Brothers, Jerry Moore and Mark Carbaugh officiating.
Graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
Memorials can be made to Teen Challenge and St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
